A Company needed to improve cycle times related to operations on a painting line. 30 kg engine blocks had to be loaded and unloaded one every 20 seconds. The lifting aid required had to be user friendly, with no buttons to keep pressed for the up/down moves and be safe against load fall.
A hoist is not suitable as it's not fast enough and requires the operator to keep the up/down button pressed. A pneumatic manipulator is not fast enough and is equipped with end effectors, which are too bulky due to the air pipes, furthermore it's not self balancing. This latest feature is very important if loads with different weights are to be handled and no time has to be wasted for selecting a different setting.
The only solution to the above requirement was an INDEVA Liftronic Easy. This is a zero gravity balancer, really self balancing; it responds to the operator's touch and moves in the required direction with no effort required to the operator; the load can be positioned in a quick and precise way as it allows the operator to handle loads as smooth as in manual handling as if the manipulator were an extension of the operator's arms, but with the power of a machine.
